Artist statement
​
The ever changing environment over time has always been the basis of my inspiration of pattern and form. Time, movement, history and change are key aspects I capture within my work. The industrial architecture of South Wales is a key interest to the use of line and form, I hand build by coiling with clay exploring the paradox between the natural and human-made world.
The changes of colour, texture and roughness in the clay give an expansive vocabulary, the materials rich history in both functional and sculptural form underpins my practice. I have focused on the idea of the vessel, challenging the traditional form by exploring scale and functional values. The rough texture of the inside of the forms leaves evidence of process, leaving a trace of history, the mark of the maker and therefore 'dysfunctional'. I work in a series of multiples, sequences, presenting a variable of consequences, reflecting both the natural and the handmade.
